About

The Climate Vulnerable Forums Global Parliamentary Group (CVF GPG) in collaboration with the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), and the Global Renewables Congress (GRC) is convening an Accountability Summit for parliamentarians at COP28. The Summit will explore the role of parliamentarians and the ways in which parliaments can promote increased accountability to ensure that the decisions and policies in place at both the national and international levels are responsive to:

  • achieving the commitment to limit temperature increases to 1.5°C;
  • ensuring implementation of the Sendai Framework to reduce existing risks and prevent the creation of new risks; and
  • enhancing and scaling up adequate climate finance, including for adaptation.

KEY INFORMATION

Objective: The very first Accountability Summit for Parliamentarians will be convened at COP28 to hold all actors accountable for their decisions, actions and inactions that contribute to climate change. The overall objective of the Summit is to promote climate change and disaster risk reduction accountability amongst all actors.

Participation: Open to all members of parliament and observers

Level: Members of Parliament and parliamentary partner organisations and observers

Format: Fully in-person event for COP28 attendees

Structure: The duration of the meeting is 1 hour 15 mins.

Language: All documents will be shared in English. The Accountability Summit will take place in English.
