Climate Vulnerable Forum Maldives
Male’ Atoll, Maldives – 9-10 November 2009
The Forum first met near the Maldivian capital of Male’ on Bandos Island in the North Male’ Atoll in November 2009. Inaugurated on the initiative of Maldives President H.E. Mohamed Nasheed, it gathered 10 other governments represented by Heads of State, Ministers and other senior officials from climate vulnerable countries around the world. The Forum adopted its founding Declaration just weeks ahead of the major Copenhagen Summit UN climate change conference (COP15) expressing alarm at the pace of change being caused to the Earth as a result of global warming, pledging leadership of vulnerable countries in addressing the issue, and calling upon other governments to prioritize urgent actions to tackle global climate change.
