Climate Vulnerable Forum Leaders Event
In conjunction with the United Nations General Assembly 2020, New York
7 October 2020, 9am – 11am (EDT)
In the presence of international dignitaries and the United Nations Secretary-General, Heads of State and Government and high level representatives of the Climate Vulnerable Forum (CVF) met alongside the UN General Assembly on October 7, 2020, in a virtual format, and launched the “Midnight Survival Deadline for the Climate” initiative for all nations to deliver new and enhanced
Paris Agreement Nationally-Determined Contributions (NDCs) by midnight on 31 December 2020. Presided by CVF Chair, Her Excellency Sheikh Hasina, MP, Honorable Prime Minister of Bangladesh, and convened together with the Global Center on Adaptation (CVF secretariat), the CVF Leaders’ Event also served as an exchange on specific CVF programs, as well as key actions, concerns and issue items of critical importance for the Forum’s membership. The event addressed the vital need to ensure efforts to build climate resilience are integrated with COVID-19 pandemic responses and recovery: “build back better”, and promoted the strengthening of adaptation, and addressing of loss and damage and displacement caused by climate shocks, including mobilizing ahead of the 2021 Climate Adaptation Summit.
