Key Leaders of Climate Vulnerable Countries to Meet in Philippines

Climate Vulnerable Forum Leadership Events:

Forum Chair Handover and Inaugural Activities of the CVF South-South Centre

Leaders and Senior Officials of the Climate Vulnerable Forum (CVF) will meet in the Philippines in a series of events concluding the Philippine presidency of the body, which commenced in January 2015. Ethiopia will assume the Forum’s Chair on 15 August 2016 at the conclusion of a High Level Policy Forum at the Philippine Senate as a part of the events. Minsters and officials will also take part in the first activities, including an Inaugural Seminar and Lectures, of the newly-created CVF South-South Centre of excellence for climate information and services to be based in Philippines. The Seminar, titled “Climate Diplomacy, Leadership and Negotiations,” is being held at Tagaytay from 11-14 August 2016 and focuses on enhancing the capacity of the CVF to collaborate and advance the collective agenda of countries highly vulnerable to climate change at international and domestic levels. Particular focus is placed on strengthening the efforts of Forum members in their international and public diplomacy, in exercising leadership for climate action and through global negotiations. It will facilitate and stimulate South-South sharing of experiences and expertise, and involve targeted information briefs by leading experts on topics of particular priority and significance to the group.
Hosted by the Philippine Senate and the Climate Change Commission of the Philippines, the High Level Policy Forum will conclude the leadership events and feature the Inaugural Lectures of the CVF South-South Centre as derived by global thought leaders on climate policy, including:

  • Dr. James L. Fletcher
  • Dr. Mannava V.K. Sivakumar
  • Dr. Saleemul Huq
  • Mr. Wael Hmaidan
H.E. Emmanuel M. de Guzman, Secretary of the Climate Change Commission of the Philippines and H.E. Shiferaw Teklemariam Menbacho, Minister of Environment, Forestry and Climate Change of Ethiopia will address members of the CVF, Philippines Senate and international and national policy stakeholders and conduct the official transfer of the Forum’s presidency during the High Level Policy Forum.
